TRAINING
Following on previous work in peace building in the former Yugoslavia, in 2004, Dara
completed the educational process by designing a degree course in Community Youth
Work for University of Jonkoping. This degree course is accredited by the University of
Jonkoping, Sweden and currently is being delivered and accredited by local
universities in Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia
This is a four day experiential course in understanding the principles of group work,
group development theories and group dynamics. Dara delivered this course twenty
times to various student groups; Dara also recruited, briefed and debriefed various
tutors from N.Ireland recruited to deliver this course in the former Yugoslavia.
This course is an introduction to understanding the nature of conflict, awareness
of conditioned responses to conflict, conflict analysis and developing new skills of
working with conflict.
This course has been delivered to workers in child protection in the Lancashire area
each year since 2003.
This course was designed to develop shared vision on the role of community youth work
in building civil society and to develop the skills and knowledge of the workers through
education and reflective practice in a learning group. Dara delivered this year long
programme in Bosnia, Serbia and in Macedonia from 1998 to 2008; from
2004-2008, Dara trained local personnel in the preparation, delivery and evaluation
of this course.
Dara designed and delivered this six module course over one year to staff of to
assist workers who required the use of counselling skills in their work. This course
was delivered twice to sixteen participants.
This two day course was designed for those in a management role to develop
supervisory capacity and increase the effectiveness of work.
Dara delivered a six day course in the theory and practice of mediation to twelve
participants in Macedonia in 2006-2007
CONSULTANCY
- The facilitation of the three year Louth Anti Racist and Diversity Strategy. This
- involved a wide-ranging consultation process and negotiation with service
- providers to produce the final strategy document. The strategy was officially launched in December 2007. (see www.louthcoco.ie)
- Forum Syd Balkans programme on the development of their education strategy from 2003-7
- Consultancy to Triangolnik and the SEE University of Tetevo on the strategic development of their informal education strategy.
Organisational Development
- Ongoing team building and individual mentoring to Forum Syd Balkans 2004-8.
- Ongoing team building facilitation for Triangolnik, Macedonia
- Mentoring to a number of key individuals within organisations with a view to assisting organisational development
- The delivery of Good Relations Training for The Rural Development Council under the Maximising Community Space Programme
Dialogue Facilitation
- Institutional racism for Social Inclusion Traveller sub group in county Louth, Ireland.
- An open dialogue on the consequences of living in ethnic frontiers with a comparison between Northern Ireland and the Former Yugoslavia
- Institute for Public Administration, Ireland on working in post conflict areas in the former Yugoslavia Dialogues relating to the conflict in the former Yugoslavia in Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia and Serbia, including University professors, civil society personnel
Consultative Supervision and Mentoring.
Dara has wide experience in consultative supervision and mentoring in Ireland, England
and the former Yugoslavia. Clients come from a range of occupations from;
- Directors of organisations and senior personnel
- Middle management personnel
- Counsellors and Therapists.
Project Evaluation
Dara are currently evaluating, through an action research model, a project in Co. Louth,
which provides twenty refugees with work experience over a nine-month period. Dara
have just completed an evaluation of the PEPPA project in Sligo County. In addition
Dara staff have carried out a number of evaluations for organisations such as Ardoyne
Youth Club, YMCA, Belfast Education and Library Board, North West Health and
Social Service Trust, and Whitefield House Justice Agency among others.
